Film & TV Medical Services

About Our Film & TV Medical Services

K4 Medical provides professional medical cover for film, TV, and commercial productions across London, Hertfordshire, and the wider UK. Our on-set medics and paramedics are experienced in the specific demands of working on production sets, from studio shoots to remote locations.

Every production carries medical risks, including stunts, special effects, long working hours, extreme weather, and physically demanding scenes. These factors create situations where having a qualified medic on set is not just ideal but often required by health and safety regulations and production insurance policies.

Our film and TV medical cover is built around the unique needs of the entertainment industry.  Our medics, including qualified first aid and welfare professionals, collaborate smoothly with your crew, stay out of shot, and are ready to respond immediately if something goes wrong. We have supported productions ranging from independent short films to large-scale TV series and commercial shoots.

Our On-Set Medical Services

Set Medics

Our qualified set medics provide on-site medical cover throughout the production day, handling everything from minor injuries to serious emergencies. Experienced in film and TV environments, they understand call sheets, work around filming schedules, and carry the equipment to assess, treat, and stabilise patients on location.

On-Set Paramedics

For higher-risk activities such as stunts, pyrotechnics, or water work, we provide HCPC-registered on-set paramedics with advanced skills including trauma management, medication administration, and pre-hospital emergency care. The difference between a first aider and a paramedic on set can be critical in a genuine emergency.

Stunt Medical Cover

Stunt sequences involving falls, fight choreography, vehicle work, fire, or wire rigs require dedicated paramedic support with equipment and protocols tailored to each sequence's specific risks. We work directly with stunt coordinators and health and safety supervisors to create a medical plan covering every stage from rehearsal to final take.

Unit Medics and Welfare Support

Our unit medics provide day-to-day welfare support including managing minor illnesses, monitoring fatigue and hydration, and supporting crew with ongoing medical conditions. Particularly important on multi-day shoots, night shoots, and extreme weather productions, keeping cast and crew healthy is just as vital as responding to emergencies.

Ambulance Support for Productions

Large-scale action sequences, crowd scenes, and remote locations where hospital access is limited often require on-set ambulance standby for rapid evacuation. K4 Medical provides fully equipped private ambulances with qualified crews for production standby, ensuring immediate response if a serious injury occurs.

What Does a Set Medic Do?

A set medic is a medical professional hired to provide on-site healthcare during film, TV, or commercial productions. The role covers a wide range of responsibilities that go beyond simply treating injuries.

On a typical production day, a set medic carries out a risk assessment of the location before filming begins. They set up a treatment area with medical supplies, check that emergency access routes are clear, and brief the crew on safety procedures. During filming, they remain on standby, positioned close to the action but out of shot, ready to respond if needed.

They are able to treat the full range of medical situations that arise on production sets. Minor injuries like cuts, burns, and sprains are the most common. But set medics also deal with allergic reactions, asthma attacks, heat exhaustion, dehydration, anxiety, and occasionally more serious injuries from stunts or equipment accidents.

At the end of the day, the set medic documents all treatments provided and reports any incidents to the production’s health and safety team.

In the UK, there is no single law that specifies exactly when a production must hire a set medic. However, the Health and Safety at Work Act requires production companies to assess risks and provide appropriate medical provision. Most production insurance policies also require qualified medical cover on set Our patient transport service is also available for productions requiring hospital transfers from set., particularly for higher-risk shoots.

Productions We Support

K4 Medical provides film and TV medical cover for a wide range of production types:

Feature Films and Independent Films

From large-scale feature films with complex stunt sequences to independent productions shooting on location across London and the South East, we provide set medics and paramedics matched to the specific risks and scale of your shoot.

Television Series and Drama

Multi-day and multi-week TV productions benefit from having a consistent medical provider who understands the show, the crew, and the recurring risks. We provide ongoing medical cover for TV series, drama productions, and reality TV shoots.

Commercials and Music Videos

Commercial shoots and music videos often involve tight schedules, multiple location shoots, and creative setups that carry some type of risk. Our medics are experienced in adapting to fast-paced production environments and can work at short notice.

Documentary and Factual

Documentary shoots, particularly those involving outdoor locations, travel, or physical activities, benefit from having a medic who can manage the unpredictable nature of factual production. We provide medical cover for documentary crews working across the UK and internationally.

Live Events and Award Shows

Live broadcasts and award ceremonies require medical standby for both the production crew and the audience. This crosses over with our event medical services, and we can provide a combined package covering both production and audience medical needs.

Film & TV Medical Cover Costs

The cost of medical cover for your production depends on several factors. We provide transparent, competitive pricing with no hidden charges.

What commonly affects the cost includes: the number of shoot days and hours per day, the level of medical staff required (first aider, EMT, paramedic, or nurse), the risk profile of the shoot (dialogue scenes vs stunts vs pyrotechnics), whether ambulance standby is needed on set, the location and any travel requirements, and any specialist equipment or certifications needed.

For a standard production day with a single set medic, costs are competitive and often comparable to hiring any other specialist crew member. Higher-risk shoots requiring paramedics, ambulance standby, or multiple medical staff will cost more.

One thing we have found is that many production companies are surprised at how affordable professional medical cover actually is, especially when weighed against the cost of production delays, insurance complications, or liability issues that can arise from not having proper medical provision.
